Mathematics teaches children how to make sense of the world around them through developing their ability to calculate, reason and solve problems. It enables them to analyse information, evaluate risk, and make informed decisions. We love maths and see it as an essential life skill. We will be committed to ensuring that all children have a positive and meaningful experience of mathematics during their time at our school. We will offer a curriculum that secures essential knowledge and skills whilst giving the children many opportunities to use and apply their mathematical skills across the curriculum, through real-life problem solving and mathematical investigations.

Children in the Foundation Stage will follow the Early Years Curriculum which looks at number, shape, space and measures.

Children in Years 1 to 6 will look at several key areas: Number and place value, the four operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division), Fractions, Measurement, Geometry and Statistics.

Mental maths will be a daily activity in all classes to develop quick recall, support learning and apply to real-life contexts. Assessment of progress will be continuous, including informal observations and discussions on practical work.

Calculation policy

We recognise that children will need a range of calculation strategies which are efficient, accurate and reliable. Through our calculation policy, children will be given a 'toolkit' of strategies which will enable them to calculate with confidence.


Every child from Year 1 to Year 6 will be signed up to the award-winning Mathletics website. This interactive website is full of helpful guidance, games and challenges. Home Learning will be encouraged for each child on Mathletics as it is a great resource that inspires the children to rehearse their maths skills at home.

Accelerated Maths

Children in Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to Year 6) will have access to Accelerated Maths, an online programme which helps teachers to personalise maths practice, differentiate instruction, monitor progress and make informed decisions to guide each student to success.
