Westclyst Reception have been very busy designing and creating beautiful castle models over the past couple of weeks as part of our Castle, Knights and Dragons project.
In the last couple of weeks, children from Westclyst Reception have been working with Mrs. Knight in the art room weekly to produce their own castle model. Children have thoroughly enjoyed being able to choose materials and demonstrate great skill in creating and decorating their finished castles. Once made children returned to the classroom to show their teachers and peers their product and many children were so proud and happy with their castles. Whilst some children took inspiration from castles read about in fairytales, others took a medieval approach and some produced spooky inspired castles, inspired from Harry Potter’s Hogwarts.
‘We made the walls out of toilet rolls and worked hard to paint them and stick them together to make our castles.’
‘My castle has got a tall tower and the points at the top are called turrets!’
‘They have got flags on because that lets people know that someone is home in the castle.’
The children have been so excited to take them home and show their parents what they have been busy making. The art lessons had inspired many children to make elaborate 3D castles at home too. Class teachers, Mrs Mercy and Miss Evans have been delighted at the enthusiasm and passion that many of the children have engaged with in the Castles, Knights and Dragons project.
